H2-XERONOX technology

What is H2-XERONOX® technology?

In its basic form, the H2-XERONOX® technology is a process that converts carbon-based waste via a safe and efficient thermal conversion process to hydrogen-rich syngas. This technology’s core is a Harmonic resonance combustion (HRC) system that provides all thermal energy and steam for this thermal conversion process. Following the thermal conversion, the hydrogen-rich syngas passes through a pressure swing adsorption (PSA) system, selectively separating various gases where high-purity hydrogen (99.999%) is recovered. The relatively low caloric value tail-gas from the PSA separation is then directed back to the HRC and used for heat and steam requirements.

The H2-XERONOX® technology is a revolutionary process that efficiently converts carbon-based waste into hydrogen-rich syngas through a safe and effective thermal conversion process. The process involves utilising a Harmonic Resonance Combustion (HRC) system, which generates thermal energy and steam for thermal conversion.

Once the thermal conversion is complete, the hydrogen-rich syngas is passed through a Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) system, which selectively separates various gases and recovers high-purity hydrogen (99.999%). The low-calorie tail gas generated during the PSA separation is then redirected to the HRC system and utilised for heat and steam requirements.

The H2-XERONOX® technology offers a sustainable solution to the problem of carbon-based waste and provides a reliable source of high-purity hydrogen for various applications. Efficiently utilising waste to produce hydrogen helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promotes a circular economy.

The technology’s unique HRC system and PSA separation process ensure maximum efficiency, safety, and purity, making it an ideal solution for the industrial, commercial, and transportation sectors. Additionally, its versatility and scalability allow it to be customised to fit the specific needs of any application.

H2-XERONOX® hydrogen technology in comparison with current electrolysis methods

The key difference between the H2-XERONOX® technology for hydrogen production over other more conventional methods such as splitting water using electricity (electrolytic) or sunlight (photolytic) is the H2-XERONOX® process is less energy-intensive and more cost-effective. For example, electrolysis requires about 55kWe and 9 litres of purified water with assumed efficiency of 60% to produce 1 kg of hydrogen. In contrast, the H2-XERONOX® is a thermal-chemical conversion process that uses carbon-based waste to produce hydrogen-rich synthesis gas. Furthermore, the technology re-uses part of the syngas to provide thermal energy for the conversion process, creating a self-sustaining, energy-efficient, green, low-emission, and carbon-neutral loop process.

Position of H2-XERONOX® technology in a developing Hydrogen market

Delafield has the potential to significantly impact the creation of a zero-emission hydrogen market through its use of H2-XERONOX® technology. This cutting-edge technology has a modular and scalable design, allowing for the production of hydrogen-rich syngas or pure hydrogen that can be further processed into products like ammonia for agricultural fertilizers. With its patented H2-XERONOX® process, Delafield can provide unparalleled efficiency, making it the most cost-effective and environmentally friendly method for hydrogen production, especially for the production of White-Hydrogen from waste.

What is the potential for White-hydrogen?

When examining the global production of hydrogen, it becomes clear that Ammonia production accounts for 43%, refineries for 52%, and other uses for 6%. The world’s ever-growing population and its increasing need for food production will necessitate large amounts of ammonia for agricultural fertilizers. Additionally, refineries and chemical industries will require high volumes of hydrogen for producing fertilizers and pharmaceuticals, as well as for fuel cells and methanol production in the automotive and transport sectors. To meet this demand for low-carbon emission fuels, H2-XERONOX® technology is the ideal “green” solution for the production of clean White-hydrogen.

The future for Delafield and H2-XERONOX®

  • The market is shifting towards a low carbon economy, and Delafield can contribute with its safe and efficient H2-XERONOX® technology. We believe that the hydrogen market is seeking the most cost-effective and environmentally friendly method to produce hydrogen from carbon-neutral sources. H2-XERONOX® offers an unparalleled, safe, and sustainable production of White-hydrogen at a low cost.

H2-XERONOX technology has demonstrated that it is possible to produce hydrogen from carbon-based waste with a net zero-carbon footprint. The H2-XERONOX system is compact, fitting into 20-foot containers, and can process one ton of carbon-based feedstock per day. It produces hydrogen-rich syngas for power generation or can purify into pure hydrogen with pressure swing adsorption.

H2-XERONOX provides a solution to the growing global waste problem, a market valued at billions of dollars. Unlike burning or incinerating waste, H2-XERONOX uses a patented HRC system and thermal conversion technology. The hydrogen economy is rapidly expanding, expected to reach $2.5 trillion by 2050.
